Calling All Gardeners!
Do you love to garden or just want to learn more about gardening? Whether you are a budding gardener or in full-bloom, you are in luck! Heritage Sandy Springs, a non-profit organization that provides activities for the entire community in a beautiful, nature-filled and
historically significant setting, is inviting garden enthusiasts of all levels of expertise to attend the “Work and Learn in the Gardens” program on Monday, February 16th at 10am at the Sandy Springs Historic Site, home of the Williams-Payne House. This program is FREE and is open to both residents and non-residents.
The program is a hands-on educational workshop for the general public and is a great opportunity for gardeners of all levels to learn, work and share their love of nature and “green thumb passion.” There will also be a review of upcoming volunteer gardener projects, a tour of the beautiful gardens and a pruning workshop.
The workshop will be led by the very knowledgeable and highly experienced, Mr. James Kambourian, a Historic Site Horticulturalist and a Founder of Heritage Sandy Springs, who is a graduate of the College of Agriculture of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and holds a Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia's School of
Environmental Design. The distinguished and respected horticulturist was also publicly commended with a resolution in the Georgia House of Representatives in 1996, for his years of dedication as a parks project planner to the Fulton County Recreation and Parks and for his invaluable service as a founding member of Heritage Sandy Springs.
Following a demonstration by Mr. Kambourian, attendees will be given the opportunity to work, under his direction, on various onsite pruning and gardening projects, such as planning and maintaining the gardens
surrounding the historic house, as well as a kitchen garden, antique rose gardens, a native plant garden and old-fashioned perennial beds throughout the 5 acre site. One exciting project coming up will involve transforming the entry to a newly acquired property at the intersection of Sandy Springs Place and Blue Stone Court into a beautiful and inviting public green space.
So come and enjoy some "green-thumb"
learning and fun!
